Why all but one of my bikes are single speeds?

With time to kill in Seattle, Emily and I joined the Slow Bicycle Movement for a ride around Lake Union. I rode my Cross Check and Emily rode her new-to-us Vassago Bandersnatch to be subverted from riding the alpine near Durango, to commuting and chariot pulling around North Vancouver.

Today was not my typical commute home

I took the Scenic Trail portion of the Trans Canada Trail

Rode through the gate way of the Height Trail

Shaded double track

Second Narrows (okay, usual part of daily commute)

followed by more trail

a hill, repeated nine times

followed by some stairs, just for added punishment

Cyclocross hurts more if you don’t train

Cyclocross season in BC kicked off with the Fort Langley Cyclocross Classic..

With Emily’s family in town, I was given the opportunity to take multimodal transit to the race site, Aldor Acres..
