before the lights are turned on

With one exception, SFAIR, all of my skiing at Cypress has been at night, under the lights.

I was doubly rewarded yesterday with a late afternoon session. I was able to get up to the upper, non-lit trails, and the shifting, late afternoon light was entrancing

A few laps later, from near the intersection of Unknown Lake, Whitmore Way, and Upper Powerline trails, looking east again with the Eye of the Wind visible above the powerline cut, and possibly one of the Lions (?)

oh yeah, the skiing.  It was cold :D ~-5; but my trusty, well-used Gecko Gear toque, commuting cycling tights, wool socks, and a few layers of wool Icebreaker shirts allowed me to sweat from the effort and not become chilled while descending.  in total 12km of trails, and 1,100 m of vertical gained.  A good hour of effort.  Cycling still hurts less…

These are beautiful pictures. You were in the right place at the right time. Wow.

mc, I was fortunate. the snow was good. there were a lot of people down low, but the upper trails were nice (and I was able to watch better skiers and try to mimic their technique and turnover until they became too small in the distance. and the weather….
