I will ride my bikes further this year than I will drive my truck. I will not parse this resolution by differentiating between Emily or myself being the driver; provided that I am in the truck, the distance will count. Nor will I apply the loophole if we buy another vehicle this year, or drive a co-op car, or, if by some reason we rent a car. The one exception to this resolution will be distance covered during business trips.
I’ll look for an app to keep the distance totals on the sidebar, and I’ll use this blog to keep me accountable for this resolution.
It should be fun. Currently, I typically get 200 to 250 km per week just commuting to and from work. As we work towards achieving our goal of rocking the Colorado Trail Race in August, the weekly totals will increase, and I’ll be doubling these distances (at least) on weekends.
Typically, my truck is only used for select shopping trips, going skiing, and weekend trips.
By year’s end, it might be close, but I think this is an achievable goal…
You should also pledge to consume more beer than gasoline.
See you in Durango!
That’s easy. I gave up recreational gasoline drinking when the price of gas surpassed $2/gal…
Scott, glad you’re interested in traveling The Colorado Trail via the CTR. Lofty goal, should be fun. Our nonprofit and volunteers work to keep the CT in good condition to benefit all. We could use additional involvement of cyclists – please let us know if you’d like us to keep you in the CT loop; just shoot us your mailing address and other contact info.
Don’t hesitate to connect with us in our little one-room office in Golden,

Beer > gasoline? No problem, even with the outragous cost of beer in BC.
I’m looking forward to making sure you make this goal.
Ride a lot while I’m in the field, sweetie so we can go skiing when I’m home!
