The Grouse Grind is a North Shore enduro-masochist’s pleasure: 2.9 km, 853 m elevation gain, 2830 stairs.
We didn’t do the Grouse Grind today.

instead, we ran, no, we walked briskly up the BCMC trail (slightly longer, same elevation, more rugged) to the Grouse Mountain Chalet (the home of the Today show during the 2010 Olympics, also the home of a new wind turbine, hysterically undersized, complete with an I-hope-to-turn-a-sustainable-profit tourist trap, installed just in time for the previously mentioned Today show to undoubtedly gasconade on the green-ness of the host site)
It was steep at the bottom

steep when we climbed into the clouds

steep when the trails became much wetter

and steep when we hit the snow

and despite the lack of conversation (did I mention that it was steep?), and the concerns of others on the trail that the aforementioned lack of conversation was a reflection that the magic was gone and a divorce was imminent, we were still quite happy when we reached the chalet..

on the way back down (yes, as we were queried by a couple on the descent, we did boycott the tram descent) a stationary chair gave a glimpse of a different snow activities in our not-too-distant future

a brief day in the snow ws such an easy way to bring a smile to her lips

and giddiness called forth her inner moose
