Emily and I have come to easy terms regarding her vegetarianism, and my omnivorism (almost “don’t ask, don’t tell” with a few more rules), however spending Thanksgiving with her family required further restrictions, as MiL and her husband, Kirk, are strict vegans..
The day started with a not-so-early morning “Welcome to the family, we’re all running a 10k Turkey Trot” where Kirk and I ran the hardest 44 minute 10k I’ve ever run; cycling and intervals in the 90’s weren’t very effective training techniques for a 10k. A day later and my quads are still in knots (hey, where’s my Thai Massage?)
Later, after more than a few beers, Emily’s sister welcomed me to the family by playing with her veggies while warning me ”if you post any pictures of me, I’ll kill you”., which, of course, obligates me to post her pictures. but, on a more serious note, if you see me on a carton of milk…
Sung, Amy’s husband, displays tryptophanticipation (obviously forgetting that soy products don’t contain tryptophan)
Emily’s mom (MiL) offering her newest SiL a martini.. yay, I already like some thanksvegan traditions (beer, whisky, wine, martinis). Cooking has never been so fun
Signs of true love..”Darling, I love you” while flipping me off under the oven mitts..
In all, a wonderful Thanksgiving. after entertaining preparation (because, inebriated people with kitchen knives and veggies is just good fun), we had an incredible dinner
Brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, pecan pie, sweet potatoes with candied pecans, cherry pie (shhh, a surprise treat for Kirk, whose birthday was four days ago), tofurky and field roast, green been casserole with fried onions, roasted veggies, dumplings, chard, stuffing, and cranberry chutney. Turkey and ham was not required, or even missed..
- Goodies on Deck
- Nothing canned about these beets
- Carrots and potatoes from the Ferry Building
- mmm mmm good
- I want this brussel sprout, right here
- one green bean casserole, coming up
- Chard; good for any occasion
- Tofurky and Spring Roast
- Coming together
- almost time
- a little everything, wanting for nothing

At least alcohol is part of a vegetarian and vegan diet!
Actually, that looked quite tasty, never had Tofurkey before. Only plain old tofu.
Man I cant imagine Thanksgiving without a bird!
Looks yummy though!
