Today’s temp in Bake-O is 101F. To complete the twofer, today’s roadie ride mileage was in excess of the temperature (prolly 110-115 miles, with about 10k feet of climbing). Ran out of water twice, and I met and rode with record holder (and 3 time winner) in the Race Across America (RAAM), Joe Petersen. Interestingly, in the small world category, for one of his records in 1996 (?) Joe’s teammates were Waz and John Fry. I rode with Waz three to five times a week while I was in Los Alamos, and John a few times.
In the category of excellent parts of today’s ride, my knee did not bother me once during the ride. Possibly due to the emphasis that I have placed on stretching to relieve IB tightness, which I think was the source of pain in the first place. Lots of stretching, and a much more aggressive yoga practice appears to be paying dividends..
Damn thats some serious road climbing…. you gonna make it next weekend at Fresno?
I had forgotten about Fresno. I’m supposed to do the Creampuff next weekend, but my injury plagued year has all but eliminated my chances of going to Oregon. I may be able to gut out some roadie miles behind a few Coloradans though.. Let me see how I feel after tomorrow’s ride..
