After waking particularly early this morning, I was actually moved to do my morning yoga/stretching out back instead of inside. It was pre-dawn, and I was able to watch the skies transition from the early morning darkness, through the pinks while the sun peeked above the Southern Sierras before settling into the blue skies that are now prevalent. Temperatures were int he upper 50s or lower 60s. Perfect. After a little warm-up, it was quite comfy to ditch my socks and shirt. My presence didn’t disturb the birds that like to sit throughout the yard and sing.
The niceness of the morning became more obvious as I headed out for my commute into the office. Still a little cool, but no need for sleeves or armwarmers. As I hit south of town, and started taking the dirt roads through the farms to get to my office, the marked contrast of the rows of green corn which have not tassled yet in these particular fields, to the blue skies was incredible. Cloudless, and as yet hazeless, and without wind. The views of the foothills around the southern edge of the Kern Valley were as nice as I’ve seen them in the past year.
In the past year. That’s when it hit me. I have now been in Bako for one year and one day. A lot has happened in this year. I miss my friends, you know who you are, you’re prolly the only people that read this blog
While I’ve made friends in Bako, and some new, very dear friends in Idylwild, CA and in Vancouver, BC; I have yet to establish a network similar to the one I left in Los Alamos or the Front Range, so I just wanted you all to know how often I think of you and that I miss you.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not expressing regrets. I love my job at Crimson Renewable Energy. Every day is a new challenge (literally, I rarely complete a day at work without something new arriving on my desk), the work is fulfilling, and the people are great. Bako is not my final destination, but if Bako is a temporary price for my job, it is one that I’ll gladly pay. Speaking of which, I’d better go and get to work…
thx

Seems like a similar situation we had in Albuquerque. Took years to meet riding friends. In Durango, life has been much better. I can’t even count the number of women riders I’ve now met who always want to go for a ride.
Perhaps I should move to Durango? Wanna race any more duos?
I was very thankful to leave LA! Eventually, you’ll make your way back here… sounds like Tor & MC will soon too. ps-I can walk to GCB
Scott, I enjoy your stories and pictures . Cannell Trail awaits!
Sounds like a blissful morning. Hey, you’d have enjoyed Gallup this weekend. The crew was overdue for a road trip, and it was a nice getaway. Who new NM has buff singletrack where you can ride for 55 miles and do no appreciable climbing? Happy anniversary,
- Joe
mr prez.. thanks, I’m just waiting for an official date for Cannell Trail, and I’m in. I destroyed myself yesterday, story and pix coming soon…
Joe, Gallup is always enjoyable (except maybe July or August, and after Bako, I think I’m ready for those temps).. No appreciable climbing, where’s the fun in that? I hope that you rode your ss..
It is official! You will be expected to show for the Cannell Trail on June 22nd! The more people that come the better, the groups will form and everyone will fall into their skill set. See you next Sunday!
