and the km are clicking away..
Sunday, the weather forecasters were wrong, it was windy but not very wet.. easy miles
Monday and today? Commuting to and from work is just under 30 km each way (18 miles), throw in lunch time rides, and I’m pushing the 100 km mark a few times during the week. Then there are nights like tonight. Managed to tie myself up at work, finishing up some lab stuff and chatting with a friend via e-mail, and before I knew it, it was 7 pm, sun was down at 6 (c’mon daylight savings). Been running the Ay Up lights on my crossbike anyway, so daylight (or lack thereof) was not an issue. Weather? This morning I had to wear knee warmers and armwarmers to work; lunch ride? neither; ride home after dark? arm warmers only, and they were pushed around my wrists within minutes of leaving the office. No wind, lots of stars (nothing compared to the Rockies, but I’ll take whatever I can get). dirt roads through ag land? no traffic until the final 5 to 7 km. mmmm. nice ride..
on another note, a few weeks ago, we had a distillation tower (old de-ethanizer) removed from our process area so that we can replace it with a tower better suited for our needs (glycerine/water separation)..
Positioning the crane, and reviewing after a little tension has been exerted

lifting the old tower from the pedestal (which we will be reusing). 30,000 lbs

Laying it down without damaging any of the nearby equipment

hooks welded (overly welded) to the tower top

almost down

Our “new” glycerine tower. There’s stainless steel under all that rust

This steel was exposed to some harsh conditions (and it’s all in the process of being replaced)

Bike commute + decent surroundings means lunctime rides. That is huge. work is now a couple of 4-5 hour blocks. Sweet.
it is sweet. Still takes a little more planning because I need access to my car during the day. But my office is now stocked with food and a clothes.
