After 3 years of living with megaesophagus, Porter passed away this morning in his sleep. He had spent most of the past two weeks in the hospital, battling pneumonia, which had greatly diminished his lung capacity as well as his kidney functions. Until this latest bout, he has always been a very lovable and excitable dog, but recently he had lost a lot of weight and vigor. As hard as it is for Carrie and Ariana to be the ones dealing with his death, I’m sure that he was much happier being at home instead of the hospital for his last two nights.
He couldn’t read a frisbee, but he loved to play fetch..

Hey Scott – really sorry to hear that. I’m glad I had a chance to meet Porter at the BeanFeSSt a few weeks ago.

thanks ed. I guess that he wasn’t doing so well there. He went straight from Colorado to the hospital in abq. They did what they could, but there was too much damage. Apparently the pneumonia that he had developed was completely immune to the antibiotics that we had been giving him.
Oh man that is bad news. My condoloences go out to all of you. We lost our first pet a couple of years ago and we still are affected by the loss. Sorry to hear the news.
Marni and I are so sorry to hear Scott. He looks like a wonderful doggie, sorry I never got to meet him.
Ah Geez, I’m so sorry, Scott. That’s awfully rough even though you knew it was coming. I noticed he’d lost a lot of weight last time I saw him. Nice that you got a couple good road trips in with him toward the end, tbough. Ginger’s gonna be lonely. I’ll see if the girls might walk Junie B. over to the house this weekend for some play time.

Thanks Joe
Sometimes I wonder if Ginger will be lonely or just less annoyed
She’s definitely ready to move back onto her throne..
Chris
Thanks. He was a good little boy.. I’ve been trying hard to make things work so that I hit the WRIAD this weekend, but the hope is fading fast. Have a good ride…
Scott, Carrie,
So sorry for your loss. We are very sad.
Elena and Tarik
it was the saddest day ever…but I feel better he passed away in the comforts of his own home, in his sleep, instead of at a vet. We are all sad and depressed…thanks for posting the pix…
Mega bummer! I’d be hard pressed to chose between a good dog and a good bike they both fill wonderful parts of the heart!
