German Barley Farmers Getting Out of the Business
The cost of barley-the basic ingredient of beer- is rising due to a number of factors, one of which is biofuels. Many German barley farmers are finding it more profitable to plant other crops which can be used as biofuels, such as rapeseed and corn. Both can be turned into ethanol or bio-diesel, a fuel made from vegetable oil. Because of the business decision of these farmers, the price of barley has doubled in the last two years according to the Bavarian Brewer’s Association.
I’d blame al gore but he doesn’t drive with bio fuel or fly with it…. =)
