Today’s temp in Bakersfield was 99F.. Not quite triple digits, but I’m sure we’ll be there tomorrow..
Tried to catch the 5:45 roadie ride after work today, but I left the house a little late (took more time than expected to prepare 3 bottles with ice/cytomax), and had to ride hard for a warm-up. Was still late at when I hit the park, so I kept on pushing, hoping to catch a glimpse of the group ahead. Eventually, after traveling to the east end of the Kern River Bike Path, I tried to recall the Tuesday route, but a made a wrong turn somewhere. So, I was no longer chasing. I pulled out the Garmin, just to see if I could figure out where I went wrong ( I didn’t think to upload last week’s ride to the GPS), and noticed that I had already ridden 19 miles, with a total elevation gain of 247 feet, at an average of 23.7 mph. Even if I had caught the group, I’d have been too worked to hang on the climbs.. Did a few climbs and returned home, adding a few extra miles on the west end of the trail for a total of 51 miles, 1767 feet of climbing, and a more pedestrian average of 21.9 mph. drank all three bottles of liquids, the ice didn’t last 30 minutes. going to have to start freezing the bottles ahead of time..
