No pictures, but this week has been my biggest week of cycling hours so far this year. After tonight’s ride, I have just over 18 hours so far, with another 4 tomorrow and a weekend of good weather to pile on a couple of longer rides, including the first mountain bike ride of the year.. Hopefully, I’ll be ready for the Rim Ride..
I was witness to a very nice, heartwarming event during tonight’s ride. I finished up tonight’s ride by doing a little out-n-back north on the Dry Creek Trail. During the ride, I was cruising up behind a little boy and his father that were out riding. The father was at near the top of a stout little climb, and the little Lance was about halfway up. As I approached, I heard the father ask if he was doing okay, and the son exclaimed “I can do it!” I pulled up along side just as he was nearing the crest, and gave him a few words of encouragement and he looked left with a smile that was ear-to-ear. As we finished the climb, his proud father said that this was his (little lance) 1st week on his 1st bike with gears.. Very cool, of course, it would’ve been cooler if the father had been wearing a helmet, like little Lance was, but what can you do. Still a touching moment…
Speaking of little Lance, guess who is coming to a Bicycle Village near me? If you didn’t hit the link and peek, it is none other than Mr. TdF 2006, Floyd Landis. He’s rolling through Colorado on his Floyd Fairness Fund tour, raising money for his dope defense…Not sure if I’m going to make it or not, a few pix of Floyd, in addition to listening to his side, would be cool, but I’d likely have to cut my Sunday ride short in order to make it. Not to mention the minimum $35 “donation” required (I only had to pay $10 to listen to Phil Liggette and Bob Rolle)..But, if I wanted to bid, I could win a yellow jersey, or an infinitely better item, and autographed (by Landis, I’m assuming) bottle of Jack…
“
This started after his disastrous Stage 16, where he went from controlling the race to a distant 11th. He thought it was all over, so instead of getting a massage and readying himself for the next day, he and some teammates went to a bar down the street. After one beer, they were mobbed, so they returned to a hotel room, where someone produced a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, which has made many a good night go bad.
The next morning, Landis went out and smoked the field, winning the stage and setting up his eventual win. Everything was great, until Wednesday, when his team received a fax informing them of the test result. Landis was quick to point out that it wasn’t a failed test.”
Jack Daniel’s..The secret to crushing your opposition…
