It all started Friday night when, while talking to Ariana, I mentioned how beautiful the light from the full moon was while reflecting from the snow. I asked her to step out front and take a look and see if she agreed. When she looked out the front window, she told me that she couldn’t see the moon, so I asked her if she could see me. She said “What?”.. I turned on the dome light in my pick-up..”Can you see me”…Huh?”..”I asked if you could see me?” as I flipped my headlights on and off… “YESSSS!!!!!”
Surprise!!! I hadn’t told Carrie or Air that i was coming home for the weekend, since I didn’t make up my mind until Friday afternoon. After a windy, snow-blown trip through Colorado, I made it home just in time to munch on buffalo burgers..yummy..
Saturday morning, we took the dogs and the snowshoes up to the East Fork Trail in the Jemez. The snow was incredible, and we had the trail to ourselves.
Initially, the dogs were full of energy. Here, Ginger tries to keep Porter’s cold nose away from her butt..

But they slowed down considerably after wading through the snow..

Porter was frequently covered in powder..

Carrie checked the signpost to see if we were on the singletrack..

She was a walking catalog for gekko gear (tights, shirt, hat, vest), which has changed their name to Col D’Lizard. They make excellent fleece products for most activities, check them out..

Ariana had a lot of fun, looking for things wrom which to jump

Even if she didn’t nail every landing..

She was also a little rambunctious, here caught in the acts of throwing a snowball at mommy..

Snowshoeing was followed by a little shopping, and then naptime for all, especially the dogs..
The plan on Sunday was to leave by late morning so that I could finish t he drive back to Denver while the sun was still up. This would also enable me to catch most of the Super Bowl at some friends’ house in Golden. But the weather in Los Alamos was beautiful, so Carrie and I went for a roadie ride instead. “All right, knickers weather!!” to which Carrie replied, “It’s not that warm..” But it was, knickers were perfect. The sky was clear (Carrie got a little too much sun), and there wasn’t a hint of wind, so we enjoyed a quick lap around the loop..
The loop is the most popular roadie ride in Los Alamos, but there aren’t very many roads in Los Alamos..

About 27 miles with 2k of climbing..

All of Carrie’s training this year, including too much time on the rollers due to the frequent snowstorms have her in great shape, and really looking forward to racing with the Pedal Queens. Unfortunately, after the ride, I had to pack up the truck and hit the road. I was able to listen to the game on the radio, and although I am happy that the Colts won, it does sound like it was a pretty sloppy game, so maybe missing it wasn’t such a bad thing, although the radio doesn’t carry the the commercials, which this year may have been the best thing about the game..
10 days until Keystone….
