not much riding

well, it has been a while since I’ve posted up, and there have only been a handful of mountainbike rides in the meantime, since NM has been beset by snowstorms. The slopes are getting more snow thatn they have in the past few years, records snowfalls were set in ABQ for two weekends ina row. So, although the snowboaring has probably been great, it has not been favorable for cyclists. I’ve logged more miles running than I have in 9 or 10 years.. Even the roadbiking has become difficult, after an excellent 1st thee weekends in december (as defined by 3 weekends in a row with at least one 100+ mile ride), the snow came in, and the bikes went unridden, other than a few days on the rollers.. a very few days on the rollers..

There is, however, big news. After a prolonged job search, nearly two years, I finally found a job. I am now a chemical engineer (imaginative job title) for Crimson Renewable Energy, a newly formed subsidiary of Crimson Resource Management (a petroleum company).

I’m very excited about the company, and the projects that I’m going to be working on, but the job does has it’s negative side. Largely, that I will be away from Carrie, Ariana, Ginger and porter for a while. Currently, I am in Denver, which is even colder than Los Alamos, with more snow, and 100+ mph winds I will be in Denver for 6 to 8 weeks, and then on to Bakersfield, while the family remains in Los Alamos, at least until later in the year. I’ve only been up here for two nights, and I miss them..I’ll start adding more pictures again eventually, I have to learn a new workflow for pictures, because I’ll be moving from our apples to a new pc laptop. The city streets in Denver are crazy. they’ve received so much snow, so rapidly, that many streets have yet to be plowed, and then they received more snow, and now this weekend there is to be more snow, and highs in the single digits. Frozen snow and ice everywhere. It’s difficult to even get to the pilot plant that I’m going to be running since there is a 5 foot high snowdrift up against the garage doors where it is stored and operated. Not to mention that at these temperatures, the palm oil feed has the consistency of Crisco shortening..

feed has the consistency of shortening..

Uh, should I be worried about my roof? Seems to me that 100 mph is about where the shingles decided to take a vacation last year.

    well, I haven’t found any leaks yet…

btw, your rollers are really loud.. Hopefully your neighbors can’t hear them at 5:30 in the am from your garage…

    Hey Scott–
It is the same Emily that moved north. Almost 9 years later I’m still here. Still riding, but it is ski season here. Although, my ski last night was more like a drive through car wash. +3C and rain.
Give me a shout on the work email if you’ve got the time(emily.chastain@amec.com).
