Some friends of friends of somebody, that have spent the last nine days riding in Taos and Santa Fe, were looking for a trails guide in Los Alamos this morning. They’re a bit on the tired side, so that removes Guaje Ridge from the mix, but leaves a wealth of trails to choose from.
Mike, Brenda (his wife), and myself, rode on of the typical loops around time. perimeter trail from the western area. My legs felt okay, so I brought out the Gunnar and it was a good choice. The initial climb was a shock to their legs, but they have already figured out that the typical ride in NM starts with a climb, and then climbs, and climbs, and climbs… Mike really enjoyed climbing through all the rocks, typical of LA..

but Brenda, while enjoying the scenery, was feeling all of her previous rides each time the trail kicked up or went over a rock..

Here, Mike attempts to get up the 3 step wall near the mitchell trail

Here, Carrie joined us, and we changed the ride plan. Brenda and I took the direct route back to Sullivan field via Walnut Canyon (she was tired and I had to go to work), while Carrie and Mike did the Rendija canyon/Pajarito trail/Shoeshine loop. Last i saw of them, they were flying, and afterwards she told me that they had a great ride, and that Mike took lots of pictures of the rocks formations on the Pajarito trail.. I’ll see if I can link those at some point..Here’s one of his pictures, Tschicoma dacite formations along the Pajarito trail

The other news of the day was in the Tour. The second day in the Alps, finishing on La Toussuire, promised to be a brutal day. When I left the action to ride with Mike and Brenda, the contenders were all together, with CSC putting the hammer down, presumably to break Pereiro (the non-climber). When I returned from my ride, the big news of the day was that Pereiro didn’t break, but Landis was done. He lost 10 minutes. His climb up Pereiro looked like my climb up Kebler pass on Saturday..
